About Turning Point Church
Who We Are Located at 899 West McClain Avenue in Scottsburg, Indiana, Turning Point Church (TPC) is a community-focused congregation dedicated to both spiritual growth and active social outreach. We are proudly affiliated with the Southeastern Indiana Baptist Association (SEIBA) and the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), which connects us to a global network of missionary and disaster relief efforts. As a "Great Commission" church, our primary mission is to share the Gospel and serve the world, starting right here in our own community.
Our History & The Jackson Legacy The foundational era of our modern church was shaped by the faithful 22-year pastorate of Reverend Danny L. Jackson. A Southern Indiana native, Rev. Danny led the church from the mid-1990s until his passing in May 2018. Under his guidance, Turning Point Church established its permanent home on McClain Avenue and became a deeply rooted pillar of Scottsburg’s spiritual and civic life. Rather than experiencing the "pastoral churn" common in many small-town churches, Rev. Danny's long-term dedication provided our congregation with incredible stability, allowing TPC to become a multigenerational home for families across Scott County.
Today's Leadership: Pastor Jon Jackson Following the passing of Rev. Danny Jackson in 2018, the church navigated a major transition by elevating Pastor Jon Jackson to the lead pastoral role. Pastor Jon carries on his father's legacy, maintaining the church's historical resilience while bringing his own energetic, transparent, and biblically grounded style to the pulpit. Under Pastor Jon's leadership, the church has avoided radical departures from its roots, instead choosing to build upon its established foundation with modern digital tools and an aggressive approach to community-based social outreach.
What We Believe & How We Worship
Theology: We are firmly anchored in Southern Baptist orthopraxy. We believe in the autonomy of the local church and practice "believer's baptism" by immersion as a public testimony of faith.
Services: Our weekly cycle is designed for the holistic development of our congregation. Sunday mornings feature Sunday School for all ages followed by our main corporate worship service. Midweek, we offer Wednesday night services, dividing our time between full congregational gatherings and targeted Men's and Women's Bible studies.
Media Presence: We partner with WYGS (Your Gospel Station) to broadcast our Sunday morning messages, extending our reach beyond the physical walls of the church to listeners across Southern Indiana.
Our Community Impact Turning Point Church operates with a "service-first" missionary philosophy. We believe that by addressing immediate physical needs, we build a bridge to eventually address spiritual needs. Our outreach initiatives include:
H2O (Hope to Others) Ministry: Located at 979 North First Street in nearby Austin, Indiana, this ministry specifically targets socio-economic pressures in the region. H2O provides essential weekly meals to combat food insecurity, hosts Thursday evening "youth style" services to give adolescents a safe environment, and actively engages in homeless outreach.
24/7 Food Access: We host a free community food box at our Scottsburg campus to ensure anyone in need has access to food at any time.
Civic Safety Shelter: Because of our deep integration into the local community, our church facility on McClain Avenue is designated as an official safety shelter within Scott County's emergency management framework, providing a reliable refuge during natural disasters or civil emergencies.
Through a blend of traditional stability, energetic discipleship, and a fierce commitment to the social welfare of Scott County, Turning Point Church continues to be a driving force in Southern Indiana.
